Marc came up with a really cool idea for a contest. This is what we're thinking, subject to change/refinement. (Now Marc needs to start playing again!)
Duels!
Bracket every 10 levels, sudden death. 1-10, 11-20, etc. to 70-79. 80 will be it's own group. The reward will be gold equaling the top of your level bracket. You can only compete once per bracket. So break out the lowbie toons!
To even it out, we do it nekid. Trying to figure out how to do enough damage so that we can actually beat each other. Marc thought of using grey/white weapons. So you can equip something in one/both hands.
No item enhancements (poisons, enchants, etc.), no other gear. We'll allow talents and glyphs due to the cost incurred to replace them.
We'll have to test it out to see if it's too much or not enough damage to make the fight interesting.
DON'T FORGET TO CLEAR YOUR BAGS! You need room to put all your gear when you strip!
Some things to think about... Hunter pets and totems... Have to see how hunter pets scale. If you're running w/ 8-9k health and a 80 hunter pet has 19k, that would be the sux... I think totems will be okay, but the fire totems may cause to much damage. Not sure how they scale to gear if at all, either...
What if the hunters used a 3 lvl lower pet untalented and the shammys used like some sort of downranked totem. Don't know which rank would be fair though
Yeah, we could probably figure that out, but there's going to be 8 different brackets. I think we'll just have to do a bunch of practice duels to see what we can work out.
A word of advice, the difference in grey daggers, levels 1 and 72 were about 60 dps. That's going to be a lot. I would suggest everyone start looking for weapons. I didn't find any on the AH and it did a 2.5 hour grind last night for a drop and didn't get anything. It was supposedly a 3% drop rate. Well, I killed more than 100 and got zip....
Lol, I know. I spent 25 gold on some grey daggers and didn't think about my addon that auto sells when I talk to a vendor. Didn't realize it until I tried to equip them, but it was too late... Gotta find another set!
I was thinking that all casters shouldn't use any equipment for the duels - especially since the purpose of most weapons is to provide buffs to the spell power. Considering a caster's spells are their arsenal, it tends to make the playing field a little more even.
If you pit a Warlock w/ demon against a Hunter w/ pet, the fight should then be balanced.
That's probably a good idea. Whites and grays don't usually come with stats and casters don't hit with them, so I would think it doesn't matter. We'll probably go with casters -> empty hand combat.
I'm also wondering about self buffs. I guess they can be used. Any objections? Even though my Rogue doesn't have any!
I think I'll officially enter with my Rogue since that's what I'm used to, but I really would like to try out the lock. I think he has a good chance! I actually think a better chance than the rogue, but I'll give you all a shot at the prize!
I think a Mage with the water elemental would be good or the Shammy with the Flame or Rock Totem Dude.
Hate to say this but a fury warrior with 2 2-handers even if they are grey is gonna do some damage

Saturday Nights testing was fun... Pets are OP, I better a hunter with a 5 level lower pet would dominate too... Casters may be OP too Interesting stuff though. Need to try the Warrior and Pally and Mage and DK and Hunter...
